PROJECT DIARY
The smithy October 2006
The Smithy as it stood before renovations began.
The Smithy was purchased for the village of Mawnan Smith on October 19th 2006 after four years of fund raising and red tape.
The builders, Condy and Hooper, were appointed as the main building contractors.
You can follow the building progress to its conclusion .

THE TASK BEGINS! OCTOBER 2006
A daunting task
The huge task of sorting the valuable historical Smithy tools and equipment from the pure junk was a formidable one. All the usable and reclaimable tools had their positions logged and were stored in ammunition boxes. Usable equipment, fittings and cabinets were removed for careful storage. The Trustees and willing helpers battled through decades of accumulated dirt and grime to expose the bare bones of the building for restoration.
